NBA Draft Lottery Results and Takeaways

After months of waiting to see who would end up with the number one overall pick, we now have a winner, the New Orleans Pelicans. On Tuesday night, the Pelicans claimed the first pick, whom everyone would assume will be Zion Williamson come June 20th.

The NBA introduced a new system at the NBA Draft Lottery and it presented shocking results to basketball world. Many expected the Knicks, Suns, and Cavaliers to have to top 3 picks come June, but the draft lottery took another route. The Grizzlies got the number two pick, while the Knicks landed the third pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Despite having a 2% chance to get a number one pick, the Lakers ended up with the fourth pick, which puts them in good position to trade for Anthony Davis and give the Pels two picks in the top five.

The Grizzlies could possibly start planning for life after Mike Conley if they were to take Ja Morant at number two. If that happens, the Knicks will likely take RJ Barrett at three, but don’t be a surprised if Memphis takes a chance on Barrett, who has the potential to be a face of the franchise type of guy in the NBA.
