Knoxville, Tennessee is, or was, known as the Mecca of Women’s College Basketball. However, this year things have completely changed in a way that no one could’ve predicted. In a season where the Lady Vols are 7-9 in SEC regular season conference play losing to the likes of Missouri, Arkansas, and Georgia, this year’s team will definitely make the history books. The Lady Vols have broken plenty of records this season in the worst way imaginable.
The nail in the coffin, however, was the 7-point loss to their in state rivals the Vanderbilt Commodores, who bear the worst record in the SEC, on senior night in Thompson Boiling Arena. This may be the worse loss in school history. Not only because it gave them their first lost to Vandy at home ever, this loss also solidified the Lady Vols first losing record in the SEC, and it also may be the loss that knocks them completely out of the NCAA tournament. These stats are astonishing considering the power house that Tennessee once was. The Lady Vol fan base is growing increasingly more restless and calls for the firing of head coach, Holly Warlick, as if their lives depended on it.
“What would Pat think,” is a popular mantra that’s being spewed around social media by Lady Vols fans, in particular, and women’s basketball fans all around the country. We’ll never be able to really answer that question. But, I’ll leave you with another, Does Holly stay, or does she go?
